NEW YORK — Taiwan tire maker Cheng Shin Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd./Maxxis International has struck a deal to be a sponsor of the New York Yankees for the 2021-22 seasons.

The deal makes Maxxis the Yankees' official tire for the two seasons and includes a provision to have Maxxis signage visible behind home plate at the top of the first inning at home games, Maxxis said.

The deal resurrects a sponsorship arrangement Maxxis had for 15 years with the Yankees, running through the 2018 season, the company said. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Because the Yankees' popularity extends to baseball fans around the world, Maxxis' status as the team's official tire will provide far-reaching exposure for the company's brand, the company said.

"Maxxis is very proud to once again sponsor the New York Yankees," Andy Lee, vice president of operations for Suwanee, Ga.-based Maxxis International, said.

"To have our products associated with a team known and admired by baseball fans across the world is a great honor."

The Yankees have won 27 World Series championships since 1903, more than any other team in Major League Baseball. The team also has won 40 American League pennants and 19 American League East Division titles.

Taipei, Taiwan-based Cheng Shin Rubber/Maxxis International offers products for automotive, light truck, motorcycle, ATV, bicycle, lawn/garden and industrial use.

Its U.S. subsidiary company has been based in Suwanee — a city of about 20,000 located 30 miles northeast of Atlanta — since 1985.
