Mavis acquiring Jack Williams' retail, wholesale units

MILLWOOD, N.Y. — Mavis Discount Tire has struck a deal to acquire Jack Williams Tire & Auto Service Centers, the Moosic, Pa.-based family-owned dealership with 39 retail stores in eastern Pennsylvania and a wholesale business serving dealers in five Eastern Seaboard states.

The deal, expected to close in May, will boost Mavis' retail presence to nearly 1,500 stores nationwide, including 109 in Pennsylvania. The total includes a few hundred franchised Express Oil and Tuffy Tire locations.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Jack Williams Equipment, a specialists business, will be retained by the Williams family under Scott Williams' direction.

Mavis said the Jack Williams brand will "transition over time" to the Mavis Discount Tire brand.

Jack Williams' 39 stores include locations in Allentown, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Pottsville, Scranton and more.

Mavis' 70 stores in Pennsylvania are located primarily in the greater Philadelphia area. The store count includes former NTB-branded locations acquired from TBC Corp. in February 2020.

Jack Williams also operates a burgeoning mobile tire and auto service business under the JACK Mobile Tire brand.

Jack Williams' JWT Wholesale business serves more than 5,000 customers throughout Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania through a network of 11 warehouses.

To meet the growing retail footprint and customer demand, Mavis expects to hire more than 100 additional employees in Pennsylvania throughout the coming year.

Founded in 1929, Jack Williams Tire is a third-generation, family-owned business operated by the Williams family: Bill, Sandi, Scott, Tracey and Jason.

The deal is Mavis' second this year. In January it acquired Action Gator Tire Stores' retail assets, comprising 23 outlets throughout central Florida.

In December, Mavis acquired Tuffy Tire & Auto Service Centers, a Toledo, Ohio-based franchisor of automotive repair and maintenance businesses. That deal expanded the Millwood-based company's store network to 975 outlets in 35 states.
