WASHINGTON D.C. — Linglong Americas Inc. is voluntarily recalling 2,830 Venezia Crusade HT light-truck tires because of the possibility of a lower sidewall separation.
The tires being recalled were manufactured between June 1 and Dec. 31, 2015, by Linglong Tire Group at its factory in Chonburi, Thailand, according to data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall affects one size only: LT265/75R16.
Linglong said it is not aware of any tire failures of this model and size and is taking this action "out of an abundance of caution."
The recall action stems from NHTSA's being contacted in January by a third party with concerns about the tire that entity had tested.
Because the subject tire had not been manufactured since December 2015, Linglong said it reproduced several exemplar subject tires for additional testing under U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 139 testing procedures.
Linglong said these tires passed the FMVSS tests, but decided to initiate the recall action after inspecting the tire tested by the third party.
Linglong said since the subject tire line is now out of production it will replace the recalled tires with comparable tires that comply with FMVSS 139. The company said it will contact registered customers who purchased tires of the specified date range by first class mail. For those customers who did not register their tires, the firm will work with independent dealers or distributors to obtain owner information, where available.
Customers who have had their tires replaced before this recall may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a prenotification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.
Venezia-brand tires are distributed in the U.S. by American-Omni Trading Co.
