KOBE, Japan — Toyota Motor Corp. has selected the Dunlop Grandtrek AT23 as an OE fitment on the 2020 Lexus GX 460 seven-passenger SUV that's being sold exclusively in North America, according to Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd.
The all-wheel-drive GX is powered by a 301-horsepower, 4.6-liter fuel-injected V8 that provides a 6,500-pound towing capacity. Lexus also offers for the first time an off-road package featuring "Multi-Terrain Select," a drive-train package that allows the driver to optimize drivability by regulates wheelspin automatically, depending on the surface.
The standard fitment on the GX is 265/60R18 mounted on 18 x 7.5-inch aluminum alloy wheels, Lexus said. Other OE suppliers for this vehicle are Bridgestone Corp. and Michelin Group, Lexus data show.
The Grandtrek AT23 is characterized as an "all-around" type SUV tire designed to cope with a wide range of field conditions, Sumitomo Rubber said. It was selected to help achieve the "refined riding experience and stable handling" that's expected from a Lexus SUV, Sumitomo said, while also providing "superior" performance in terms of fuel efficiency.
The Lexus GX 460 is on sales now; prices start at $53,000.
