AKRON — The organizers of the biennial International Tire Exhibition & Conference have extended the deadline for submitting prospective technical papers to June 1, in deference of the COVID-19-impacted business routine.
The 2020 conference and trade show, organized by Tire Business' sister publication Rubber & Plastics News, will take place Sept. 15-17 at the John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron.
Eric Higgs, senior vice president of marketing operations for Bridgestone Americas Inc, is scheduled to make the keynote address on Sept. 15, in which he plans to examine the evolution of mobility, focusing particularly on fleet management trends.
Those interested in presenting a paper at ITEC 2020 should note the conference topics being organized:

- Advanced material characterization;
- ASTM standards for tires;
- Automation in tire processing;
- Materials to enhance tire performance;
- Recycling;
- Reinforcing materials;
- Tire failure and analysis; and
- Tires for future applications.

The Sept. 16 networking reception will include a salute to the city of Akron, featuring musicians, food and entertainment honoring the Rubber City.
ITEC also will honor achievements in tire technology, with the presentation of the Harzold Herzlich Distinguished Technology Achievement Medal. The award, presented during each ITEC event, is named after Mr. Herzlich, the longtime technical editor of Rubber & Plastics News and one-time researcher at Pirelli-Armstrong Tire and Armstrong Rubber Co.
Nominations for the Herzlich Award can be submitted at rubbernews.com/herzlichaward. Deadline to submit a nomination also is June 1.
Begun in 1994, ITEC attracts more than 80 exhibitors and 1,600 attendees to the biennial event. To register or discover more about the show, visit itec-tireshow.com.
