COLUMBUS, Ohio — Honda North America Inc. recently honored Michelin North America with a top supplier award for 2022.
Michelin was among 54 North American suppliers honored for "outstanding performance" in supplying the company with parts and materials in the face of critical challenges including supply issues, logistics and transportation disruptions, weather impacts and workforce issues.
Honda said it does business with 702 OEM suppliers across North America, which provide parts to the company's 13 plants in the region producing Honda- and Acura-brand cars and light trucks and the engines and transmissions that power them.
Honda purchased nearly $27 billion in parts for mass production operations from North American suppliers in 2022, which supported the sales of more than 1 million Honda and Acura vehicles in North America.
Honda recognized 35 of its 72 OEM suppliers for outstanding performance in three categories: excellence in quality and delivery; sustainability; and challenging spirit.
In addition, Honda also purchased more than $1 billion in parts from its service parts suppliers in North America for use by its dealers in servicing the 20 million or so Honda vehicles on the road.
Honda singled out Michelin's Ardmore, Okla., plant in recognizing the tire maker. Michelin is one of six tire suppliers to Honda. It has an estimated share of Honda's OE tire business of over 25%.
