NASHVILLE, Tenn. — This year's MLB wild card round features 16 teams — and one tire.
Hankook Tire, the official tire of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor for the American League and National League wild card round, which expanded to a 16-team, best-of-three format this season after COVID-19 shortened the regular season to 60 games. The games began on Tuesday.
"We are proud to be the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League wild card series," Sooil Lee, president of Hankook Tire America Corp., said.
"While it has been an unprecedented and unpredictable year, we are thrilled to be part of this historic MLB postseason."
Hankook Tire has been the presenting sponsor of the wild card round since 2018. The format usually features two teams in each league playing a play-in game for the right to advance to the divisional round.
