COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Specialty tire maker Global Rubber Industries (Pvt.) Ltd. (GRI) has launched an off-the-road winter tire for the Japanese market that soon will be available for U.S. and European customers.
The Gripex snow tire was developed to withstand winter weather and the distinct terrain of Hokkaido prefecture in northern Japan. GRI said the product is optimal on vehicles used in sub-zero temperatures, with outstanding traction and stability on snow.
GRI said its distributors in the U.S. soon can start placing orders for the tire, which will be available in the U.S. in time for winter sales.
According to GRI, the tire features firm stability in rough use under the toughest of conditions, and gets effective traction on wet and compacted snow as a result of a unique tread design that channels snow and water out efficiently. This tire guarantees optimal performance in low temperatures and preserves longer tire life, the tire maker said.
GRI CEO Mahesha Ranasoma said the product "is a milestone for GRI as it is a very different technology developed for a very discerning market. GRI is proud of this accomplishment for Japan."
