ARLINGTON, Texas — Two unique pieces of tire art will honor Ohio State University and the University of Texas as they play Jan. 10 in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
The game is one of two 2025 College Football Playoff Semifinals and an opportunity for Goodyear, the official tire of the Cotton Bowl Classic, to showcase its newest technology.
To celebrate the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns, Goodyear commissioned two pieces of helmet-shaped tire art in the colors of each team.
The helmets stand 5 1/2-feet tall and weighs 200 pounds apiece. Artist Blake McFarland, a former minor league baseball player, used more than 90 Goodyear-branded tires and 3,600 hidden staples to make the sculptures, a process that took more than 400 hours, Goodyear said.
Fans will be able to take pictures with the helmets during events leading up to the game at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. After the contest, Goodyear will donate the sculptures to their respective schools for campus display.
"The Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic is an exciting event," Ryan Waldron, president of Goodyear's Americas region. said.
"We are proud to join the University of Texas and Ohio State University as a part of this celebration of excellence," Waldron said. "Our tire art tradition continues to evolve, and with the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady 2 tire being a key part of Goodyear's tire lineup, we are thrilled to showcase its design and performance capabilities while honoring the spirit of college football and the journey everyone takes to get to today's game."
Along with the tire art, Goodyear will have its Goodyear Mobile tire installation van at the game, where fans will be able to learn about the company's products and services.
Goodyear also will display three innovative race cars:
• NASCAR's Garage 56 car, a Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that raced in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans.
• The ABB NASCAR EV Prototype, an electric race car built by NASCAR engineers in collaboration with Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota, which runs on specially designed Goodyear tires.
• Team Goodyear's Porsche 911 Turbo S that won the 4,000-mile Tire Rack One Lap of America last year on Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3 tires.
