Gasum Group will supply renewable wind energy at Nokian's tire plant in Nokia and its Vianor car servicing operation in Finland.

NOKIA, Finland — Nokian Tyres P.L.C. has struck a deal with Finnish energy company Gasum Group to supply renewable wind energy over a 10-year period for the electricity used at its tire plant in Nokia as well as its Vianor car servicing operation in Finland.

The power will be produced by a new wind farm in North Ostrobotnia, Finland, with supply starting in 2023, Nokian said. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Nokian said it has been using electricity from "entirely renewable sources" at the Finnish factory since 2019, adding the agreement with Gasum ensures the availability of green electricity in the future.

"This is another step on our way to cut CO2 emissions according to our ambitious Science Based Targets and our commitment to renewable energy," Teppo Huovila, vice president, quality and sustainability, said.

The company also has installed solar panels on the rooftop of its warehouse in Nokia, over a parking lot of its factory in Dayton, Tenn., and at its new testing center in Spain to support its renewable energy supply, he added.
