WASHINGTON — Foreign Tire Sales Inc. is recalling 38 Otani OH-306 commercial truck tires due to a manufacturing defect that may cause the tread to crack.
The tires, size 425/65R-22.5, were produced in the third week of 2020 by Thailand's Otani Radial Co. Ltd. at its factory in Nakhon, Thailand. The tires carry the DOT code 0320.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notice of recall, cracks in the tires' tread can lead to tread separation and a sudden loss of air pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.
There are no reports of other tires manufactured at different times being affected nor are there any reports of injury or property damage, Foreign Tire Sales told NHTSA.
Foreign Tire said customers who purchased the subject tires have all been contacted and advised to take the tires out of inventory, instructed to cut out the DOT number and destroy the tires in an environmentally acceptable manner.
Customers have been directed to provide proof that the tires have been destroyed. Foreign Tire will reimburse affected customers for the cost of the tires plus $25 per tire for disposal costs etc.
Union, N.J.-based Foreign Tire is the importer of record and distributor of Otani-brand tires.
