Some 2002-06 Saturn VUE mid-size SUVs may produce a rattle-type sound from the front of the vehicle when driven over rough roads at slow speeds.
One likely cause for the noise, says GM, is a worn lower brake caliper pin bushing.
To make an accurate diagnosis, go on a road test to see if you can get the rattling noise to occur. When it does, apply and release the brake pedal. If the noise is unaffected by the pedal movement, this information doesn't apply; continue searching for the source of the noise. If the rattle ceases when the brake pedal is applied, but returns when released, the lower caliper pin bushing is the culprit. Installing an improved bushing, part # 15824369, should alleviate further noise issues.
