SAN JOSE, Calif.— Consumers not only can purchase tires on eBay Motors, but thanks to a "significant" expansion to its tire installation offering, they now may choose a local installer from more than 5,000 locations across the U.S.
eBay Motors announced the expansion of the program on June 21 without quantifying how much the network has expanded of late.
The upgrade includes a larger selection of "easily" searchable products, as well as provides consumers the ability to schedule service by entering the tire size and selecting a shop for shipping and installation.
The online auto parts and accessories retailer said its service is available within a five-mile radius of the "average shopper," working with tire installation partners such as CarAdvise L.L.C., a San Jose-based online vehicle repair and maintenance platform; and SimpleTire, as well as Bridgestone Americas' Firestone Complete Auto Care and Icahn Automotive's Pep Boys chains..
A little more than four years ago, eBay Motors announced it had expanded its tire installer network to include the Firestone network and TBC Corp.'s NTB and Tire Kingdom brands through a partnership with CarAdvise.
It is unclear whether Mavis Express Tire Services Corp. is part of the installation network, after Mavis, the nation's largest retailer, acquired 595 Tire Kingdom and NTB locations from TBC Corp. in late May.
Ron Jaiven, general manager of parts and accessories, eBay Motors, said all consumers now can have tires installed by professionals.
"eBay Motors now makes that easier than ever with a complete solution that helps buyers of all skill levels find the right tires for their vehicle, book an appointment at their convenience, and have them professionally installed by a local shop," he said.
The company said that more than 75% of tires sold on the platform are eligible for installation, including brands such as Bridgestone, Goodyear, Michelin and Pirelli.
Consumers can get free installation through July 2 when they buy a set of new tires.
The process, eBay Motors said, is simple. Go to eBayMotors.com/tires and:
- Input tire size to browse new tires that come with installation;
- Add tires to cart to choose a local installer from the trusted partner network; tires will ship directly to the service center;
- Look for an email or call from eBay Motors' partners who will guide appointment scheduling and completion of the service;
- Visit the shop to complete the installation.
eBay launched its tire installation services in 2017 in the U.S. In 2022, eBay had nearly $74 billion of gross merchandise volume.
