CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The No. 2 Discount Tire Team Penske Ford Mustang, which was driven by Austin Cindric to victory in the 2022 Daytona 500, has become part of the NASCAR Hall of Fame exhibit, "Glory Road: 75 years."
According to Discount Tire, the retailer's Ford Mustang is the 19th and final car to join the fifth generation of the exhibit. The Glory Road track features 33 degrees of banking as well as some of the most significant vehicles in NASCAR history. The Mustang will be one of 19 cars, the most ever, in the exhibit.
Cindric joined Winston Kelley, executive director of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Michael Nelson, president of NASCAR Operations for Team Penske, and Tom Williams, executive vice president and Chief Experience Officer for Discount Tire, to showcase the newest addition.
"It's surreal to see a car with my name on it in the NASCAR Hall of Fame," Cindric, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year, said. "Winning the Daytona 500 is an amazing achievement for me, our team and our partners. So, to say this car is important to us, is an understatement. I know it will be in great hands. There's a lot of history in that place. I'm proud to have it on display as part of the experience."
The exhibit, "Glory Road: 75 Years," showcases historical machines and pays tribute to the people, cars and moments that have helped shaped NASCAR during the racing circuit's first 75 years. The addition of the Ford Mustang that Cindric drove to victory in last year's Daytona 500 is the first car from the Next Gen era to be featured in the display at the Hall of Fame.
"When I look at all the cars on 'Glory Road' and I see the No. 2 Discount Tire Ford Mustang, it's a reminder of our team's hard work and the success that comes from their effort and dedication," Nelson said
Cindric was the first rookie racer in history to win the Daytona 500, coming in first in what was just his eighth Cup Series start. Discount Tire said the win serves as a highlight of the partnership between Team Penske and Discount Tire, as the organizations celebrate their 14th year together in 2023.
Williams said Discount Tire has had 36 wins and five championships with Team Penske, "and we look forward to achieving more milestones together in the seasons to come."
The NASCAR Hall of Fame is in Charlotte, opened in 2010, is an interactive, entertainment attraction honoring the history and heritage of NASCAR.
Penske Performance Inc. and Discount Tire/America's Tire recently extended Discount Tire's sponsorship deals for Team Penske's NASCAR Cup Series and IndyCar teams for an undisclosed number of years.
