BOWIE, Md. — The deadline is fast approaching for qualified students to apply for the Tire Industry Association (TIA) and Michelin North America Inc. higher education scholarships they offer annually to high school seniors who are part-time employees or the dependent children of full-time employees of TIA member tire dealerships.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. EST. Scholarships total $6,250 for three students — one $3,000 award and two $1,625 awards. The awards are to be applied to tuition, fees and books and can be renewed up to four years.
A dependent child includes natural or adopted children, legal wards or resident stepchildren. The employee must be employed by the firm at the time of application. Michelin employees and dependent children are not eligible.
Applicants must be high school seniors planning to pursue a post-secondary education at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational technical school in the U.S.
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale through the fall 2021 term. All recipients must be enrolled full-time each semester and working toward an undergraduate degree.
The scholarships are renewable after the freshman year for three years, or until the degree is obtained, whichever is earlier. Scholarship recipients must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 to be eligible for renewal.
The Michelin/TIA Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2000. Since the scholarship's inception, more than $500,000 has been awarded to 72 recipients.
The application is available online via TIA's website. Supporting materials must be mailed in one envelope to: Michelin TIA Scholarship, P.O. Box 1465, Taylors, S.C. 29687.
