WASHINGTON D.C. — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is recalling 2,095 touring tires sold under the Cooper, Mastercraft, Hercules and Starfire brand names due to the use of an "improper" sidewall component that could cause tire deflation and tread separation.
Cooper will replace the tires — Cooper Evolution Tour, Mastercraft SRT Touring, Hercules Roadtour 455 Sport, Starfire Solarus AS and Mastercraft Stratus AS tires, size 225/50R17 — free of charge. Owners may contact Cooper Tire customer service at 800-854-6288; the reference number for this recall is 175.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov.
Cooper is recalling 2,095 tires which were built the 30th week of 2019 at Cooper's plant in Tupelo, Miss., and carry the DOT plant ID code of U9 and date code of 3019.
Cooper said the problem is linked to the installation of an "improper" sidewall component used in manufacturing operation on one tire building machine.
Some affected tires may have a visually distorted tread condition that could be detected prior to being placed in-service. In-service conditions may be a ride disturbance or belt separation that may be felt in the vehicle steering or ride.
Cooper said there have been no property damage, death or injury claims associated with any of these tires.
