FORT MILL, S.C. — Continental Tire the Americas, citing the continuous growth of its executive staff, is planning to expand its headquarters complex in Lancaster County, committing $20 million for an office building for up to 400 employees.
At 88,000 square feet, the new structure will nearly double the amount of office space Continental will have at the South Carolina complex, where the firm has housed support operations of its tire business throughout North and South America since 2009.
"We are excited to invest in our campus and bring our team together in a new, fresh space that includes modern features and design to support the future work environment," Jochen Etzel, Continental Tire the Americas' CEO, said.
The addition, expected to be completed by mid-2022, will enable Continental to consolidate its footprint and provide the space needed to support the continuous growth of its operations.
In line with Conti's "Vision 2030" corporate strategy, the new structure will feature an array of sustainability features such as photovoltaic solar panels on the roof to support the facility's energy needs, along with ample meeting and collaboration space for the headquarters staff.
Jamie Gilbert, executive director, Lancaster County Department of Economic Development, called the expansion a "huge win" for the county and said the firm's "long-term commitment to Lancaster County speaks volumes about the outstanding business climate, professional workforce, strategic location and excellent quality of life."
While located in rural Lancaster County, the headquarters' address is Fort Mill, a town of about 22,000 located about 20 miles south of Charlotte, N.C.
