ATLANTA — Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C. will launch a pair of 19.5-inch regional on-/off-road truck tires at the upcoming Technology & Maintenance Council Meeting in Atlanta.
The new tires — Conti HSR+ heavy-steer and HDR+ heavy-drive — are designed for Class 4 trucks and to deliver performance improvements in mileage and cut-and-chip performance, without sacrificing scrub resistance, over the HSR and HDR products they're replacing.
Conti claims the regional 19.5-inch tires are "ideal" for on/off-road regional applications where traction is necessary in combination with on-road mileage. The tires are designed to run at speeds up to 87 mph under full load, traveling up to 300 miles daily, and then under off-road conditions once they reach their destination, Conti said.
The casings are warrantied for retreading. Using a new cap/base tread compound, the tires deliver a 15% improvement in cut-and-chip performance and 12% expected increase in mileage versus the HSR and HDR.
The HSR+ also is available with a matching retread, the ContiTread HSR with a 16/32nds-inch all-position tread.
In addition, Continental is adding a new size, 295/75R22.5, to the HDL2 DL and HDL2 DL Eco Plus drive tires, which allows fleets to spec the same size tire on both the steer and drive axle, simplifying casing management.
The TMC Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition runs Feb. 24-27 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The TMC is part of the American Trucking Associations.
