NASHVILLE — Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations L.L.C. is recalling a batch of 1,185 Ecopia commercial trailer tires to recover 24 that were manufactured with a misapplied component.
The recall affects R123 Ecopia tires, size 295/75R22.5.
During manufacturing, one of the three stabilizer ply belts may have been applied in the wrong orientation on 24 of the tires being recalled. That condition could could cause the tire to fail and result in a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
These tires were manufactured at Bridgestone Americas' plant in LaVergne, Tenn., during the 35th week of 2024.
Of the 24 tires identified as having the problem, 18 have been contained, Bridgestone said, with six remaining in the field.
The tires being sought have the Tire Identification Number: 1D2 BT 4A6R 3524.
The affected tires will exhibit an overly convex tread shape when fully inflated (i.e., the center of the tread will be significantly higher than both shoulders), Bridgestone said. Affected tires may also exhibit premature and/or irregular wear in the center/crown area of the tread after on road use.
Bridgestone will replace the tires for free. The company is expected to mail letters to owners May 13. Owner also may call the company's customer service at 800-847-3272.
Owners also can call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to nhtsa.gov.
