GREENVILLE, S.C. — Micheln North America Inc.'s BFGoodrich Tires brand has launched a fully integrated tire-inflation system, dubbed "ActivAir," that allows off-road drivers to adjust tire pressures without leaving their seats.
ActivAir is designed to allow off-road drivers to conquer off-road terrain such as rock, sand, mud and more without slowing their momentum, BFG said.
Drivers can select one of four operating terrains, and the system inflates or deflates the tires. More experienced drivers can select desired pressures manually. The technology helps maximize traction by allowing a transfer of all available power to the wheels.
"Our goal at BF Goodrich is to fuel adventure," Harold Phillips, global general manager, said. "ActivAir is exciting new technology that helps our off-road community optimize their vehicle performance. This latest innovation reinforces our focus on safe off-roading."
ActivAir's patented technology was developed and pressure-tested in some of the most extreme environments, such as the Dakar Rally and the Ultra4 Racing circuit, the company said.
ActivAir is a Central Tire Inflation System designed by Michelin Group subsidiary Teleflow S.A.S. and "includes patented technology with the latest generation of pneumatic valves, and a display and control unit."
BFG is partnering with Dyantrac Products Inc., a manufacturer of off-road components, which has integrated an air passage in its axle assemblies. Specific wheels — RFI wheels are available for the ActivAir system — also integrate an air passage, BFG said.
Pricing information for the system and/or its installation was not disclosed.
