DURAND, Wis. — Bauer Built Inc. has awarded $1,500 scholarships, named in honor of founders G.F. "Sam" and Ethel V. Bauer, to five high school seniors who are either the children or grandchildren of Bauer Built employees.
The Durand-based tire dealership has been awarding the scholarships for the past 27 years, awarding $138,000 in scholarships.
The scholarships include:
Breleigh Bauer, daughter of Tad and Jodi Bauer. Mr. Bauer is the president at Bauer Built's headquarters in Durand. Ms. Bauer plans to attend the University of Minnesota in Rochester to pursue a degree in health sciences.
Sadie Cielenski, daughter of Heather and Scott Cielenski. The elder Ms. Cielenski is an administrative assistant at the Tire Center in Romeoville, Ill. The younger Ms. Cielenski will attend the University of Nebraska to study psychology.
Joey Duncan, daughter of David and Bobbijo Duncan. Mr. Duncan is an outside sales representative at the Tire Center in Mason City, Iowa. Ms. Duncan plans to attend Minnesota State University to study nursing.
Claire Kuehl, daughter of Michael and Caroline Kuehl. Mr. Kuehl is the store manager at the Tire Center in Davenport, Iowa. Ms. Kuehl will attend the University of Northern Iowa to study elementary education.
Zachary Weber, son of Joe and Jen Weber. Mr. Weber is the vice president of sales for the central region at Bauer Built's corporate headquarters in Durand. Mr. Weber will attend Michigan Technological University in Houghton to study computer science and creative writing.
Bauer Built has been in business for 77 years. It operates 35 tire locations, six Michelin Retread Technology retread plants, and two wheel-refinishing operations. It also operates a bulk petroleum business from its headquarters in Durand.
