WAUKEGAN, Ill. — Atturo Tire Corp. is expanding the scope of its Trail Blade off-road tire line with a "sport" series that incorporates competition-derived design and construction elements.
The first product in Atturo's sport series is the Atturo Trail Blade MTS, an extension of the Trail Blade M/T tire, which debuted in early 2016.
Borrowing from modifications done by Atturo's short-course off-road racing teams, the MTS features a four-lug tread pattern with additional grooves and sipes that's designed to deliver enhanced traction, Atturo said.
The new line will debut at the 2019 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show, Nov. 5-8, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where Waukegan-based Atturo has two booths, one in the Lower South Hall (Booth #3193) and one outdoor space (Booth #61005).
The Trail Blade MTS features an "intimidating" tread block that's modeled after the OTR-5 karambit knife and covers more than half of the tire's sidewall. This feature is a continuation of Atturo's partnership with Quartermaster Knives that started with the Trail Blade's debut.
Atturo President Michael Mathis calls the Trail Blade MTS a "bold new option and fitment" for full-sized 4x4 vehicles.
On the MTS, the center tread blocks work with the shoulder treads to create the tire's distinct four-lug design, with the angled shoulder tread featuring both a horizontal sipe and a V-shaped sipe cutting across the middle of the block.
These sipes aid in wet traction, especially while turning, Atturo said. The quad center treads create additional edges for traction on loose surfaces.
Other features include: built-in stone ejectors; sound-wave-distorting shoulder blocks; and sidewall tread blades that alternate into full integration with the shoulder tread blocks, creating a serrated edge for improved traction on loose surfaces.
The MTS is 12 ply-rated across many sizes, Atturo said, making those increased load-capacity size suitable for three-quarter and 1-ton trucks.
The tire will be available in sizes covering 15- to 24-inch rim diameters and including SKUs of 33- and 35-inch outside diameter that will accommodate 12-inch wide wheels.
The Trail Blade MTS is available in limited sizing for immediate orders, with more sizes to be released during 2020.
The tire is produced by Federal Corp. in Taiwan.
