ATD opens new Louisville distribution center

LOUISVILLE, KY — American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) inaugurated service its new Louisville distribution center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held April 12.

The 90,000-sq.-ft. facility is located about 10 miles south of downtown Louisville in an industrial district with access to Interstates 65 and 765. It's about five miles east of the facility ATD is vacating.

The D/C is optimized with energy-saving lights, an improved customer pick-up area, new equipment and enhanced safety features for more efficient operations, ATD said.

Approximately 45 associates will work at the facility, which will service dealers in 53 counties from Bloomington, Ind., to Leitchfield, Ky., and from Evansville, Ind., to Richmond, Ky.

During the ceremony, ATD held a moment of silence to remember five people who were killed by a Louisville bank employee armed with a rifle April 10.

ATD has been operating in Louisville for more than 35 years, and it said it will continue to demonstrate its commitment to tire and auto service providers.

"After 22 years in our previous Louisville location, we are excited to introduce the community to our new home," ATD President and CEO Stuart Schuette said. "This D/C is bigger and newer than our previous location, allowing us to better service our customers across the Commonwealth and southern Indiana."

Schuette provided opening remarks at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and attendees were given a tour to highlight the building's sustainability and safety improvements.

Representatives from Louisville Mayor Craig Greenburg's office, the Greater Louisville Inc. Metro Chamber of Commerce and council personnel were on hand.

"Louisville has been an important part of the ATD network for more than three decades," Schuette said. "As we move into this new chapter, we are excited for the future of our relationship with the community."

This marks the second facility ATD has opened in 2023. In late February, the wholesaler moved its D/C in Salt Lake City to a larger facility — west of downtown Salt Lake City in a new warehouse district with access to Interstate 80 — that is designed to better fit its needs in the region.

The wholesale distributor occupied the leased structure in mid-February and held a ribbon-cutting for the 160,000-sq.-ft. facility March 8.

ATD operates more than 130 D/Cs across the U.S., including seven it acquired last year from Monro Inc. that operate under the Tires Now brand.
