FORT ATKINSON, Wis. — American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) has earned a Green Supply Chain award — which recognizes companies that prioritize sustainability as core to their supply-chain strategy — from Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine.
The award for 2021 follows the publication of ATD's first Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) Report, which outlines the company's environmental and social goals, and details a long-term commitment to sustainability.

"We are honored to be recognized as a leader in sustainable supply-chain strategy," Mark Chandler, senior vice president of ATD's global supply chain, said.
"We've been focused on the concept of sustainability and aim to deliver value to the environment not only through our supply-chain strategy, but across all of our organization's practices."
Among many goals related to sustainability, ATD aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the global supply chain by forming more efficient logistical partnerships with manufacturers and partners, maximizing loads to reduce the number of trucks on the road and exploring effective tire-recycling programs.
"There are several industry experts and market research reports detailing American Tire Distributors efforts, that regardless of the pandemic, shortages, natural disasters and other supply chain disruptions, sustainability still remains a top priority in the supply chain," Marina Mayer, editor-in-chief of Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics, said.
"Whether it's a new solution, a new program or just simply a new way of doing business, these winners showcased heightened attention to social responsibility and environmental governance. Regardless of the challenges the supply chain industry faces, a sustainable supply chain continues to win in the end."
By publishing its first ESG report, ATD said it commits to identifying opportunities and investing in solutions that are designed to improve its holistic community impact while delivering "unmatched" customer service.
Among the goals identified in the report, ATD said it aims to reduce its overall operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emission by 25% by 2030 and reduce its carbon footprint by replacing carbon-based energy sources with renewable sources, such as the use of electric or alternative-fuel vehicles, reductions in energy consumption, and recycling and repurposing materials.
"The release of our first ESG report is an important milestone not only for ATD, but also for the broader automotive aftermarket industry," ATD President and CEO Stuart Schuette aid.
"By launching services for our retail and manufacturing partners that eliminate the need for inefficient transportation methods while reducing GHG impacts, we're setting the industry standard and ultimately helping drive improved results across our industry."
