WASHINGTON, D.C — American Pacific Industries Inc. (API) is recalling 1,226 Gladiator X-Comp A/T tires due to potential sidewall problems.
The tires covered under the recall are size LT285/75R16 with load range E and date codes 0718 to 0420, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The date codes mean the tires were manufactured from the seventh week of 2018 to the fourth week of 2020. The tires were produced by LLIT (Thailand) Co. Ltd., Shandong Linglong Group's subsidiary in Rayong, Thailand (DOT plant code 1YC).
"Due to a manufacturing issue, the sidewall may separate from the tire," the notice states, and can lead to tire failure.
Scottsdale, Ariz.-based API said it will notify owners who registered their tires and will work with independent dealers or distributors to identify other possible owners.
Dealers will replace the defective tires for free. Owners can contact American Pacific at 661-702-0988.
Customers who already have replaced their tires may be eligible for reimbursement.
API said tires produced since late Janauary have a different carcass structure, with improved lower sidewall integrity that further mitigates risks of potential lower sidewall separation.
