    SANTA ANA, Calif. — Yokohama Tire Corp. (YTC) is recalling 4,209 commercial tires that were manufactured at Yokohama's plant in West Point, Miss., between Jan. 12 and Feb. 15.

    The recall, initiated in accordance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations, was issued because the tires may have been manufactured with an out-of-specification compound, YTC said, which could lead to tire damage due to material detachment inside the tire.

    This condition could lead to a tire disablement and an increased risk of loss of vehicle control, YTC said.

    The tires were produced between Jan. 12 and Feb. 15.

    The list of tires being recalled includes 10 model types in a mix of 22.5- and 24.5-inch rim diameter sizes, and H and G load ranges, YTC said:

    • RY023 in three sizes — 255/70R22.5H, 295/75R22.5H and 285/75R24.5G;
    • RY617 in two sizes — 11R22.5H and 11R24.5H;
    • TY517 MC² in three sizes — 295/75R22.5G, 285/75R24.5G, and 11R22.5H;
    • 709ZL in two sizes — 285/75R24.5G and 11R24.5G
    • LY053 in size 11R24.5H;
    • TY527 in size 11R24.5H;
    • 109L in three sizes — 295/75R22.5G, 11R22.5G and 285/75R24.5G;
    • 108R in size 11R24.5H;
    • 715R in size 295/75R22.5H;
    • 712L in two sizes — 295/75R22.5H and 11R22.5H.

    Yokohama said it will replace free of charge any tires subject to this recall with tires of comparable value. This replacement includes the cost of mounting and balancing the replacement tires.

    If a single tire needs to be replaced, Yokohama will allow both tires on a steer axle to be replaced with new Yokohama tires. In the case of a dual assembly, Yokohama will allow both tires in the dual assembly to be replaced with new Yokohama tires.

    If customers choose to replace their tires with another manufacturer's tires, Yokohama will offer a pro-rated tread depth credit of the original purchase price.
