AUSTIN, Texas — Yokohama Tire Corp. (YTC) has developed an ultra-high-performance all-season tire designed for electric vehicles (EVs) that it plans to debut at Electrify Expo in Austin Nov. 10-12.
The Advan Sport EV A/S will be shown at the tire maker's exhibit in the Electrify Showoff Driven by Yokohama section, along with several modified and motorsports EVs.
The Sport EV will come in 10 sizes covering 18- to 20-inch rim diameters. It goes on sale Jan. 1 in the U.S., according to Andrew Briggs, YTC's vice president of marketing and product management.
"EV drivers want tires that last, and that's one of the many benefits of the Sport EV," Briggs said. "It's long, reliable treadwear is hard to find in most EV-specific tires. Plus, the Sport EV offers sharp steering response and powerful braking across a variety of conditions."
The Sport EV is the first tire with the E+ badge, signifying the tire is compatible with electric vehicles and able to fulfill requirements brought by EVs.
The Sport EV comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 55,000-mile limited treadwear warranty.
Among the benefits of the tire, according to YTC, are:
- Reliable tread life, assured by the refined contact area, which equalizes pressure distribution across the contact patch in high-torque EV applications to promote long, even wear;
- Optimized ride quality, with sidewall construction that enhances sidewall stiffness to produce responsive handling and a smoother ride;
- All-season grip comes from the new all-season compound, which utilizes more silica and a proprietary mixing process to improve mileage and snow performance while maintaining dry handling of the original Advan Sport® A/S+.
- Superior handling, with the performance shoulder that features outside shoulder blocks that are extra large to enhance cornering.
