SANTA ANA, Calif. — Yokohama Tire Corp. (YTC) has added a long-haul drive tire designed for severe snow service, the 712L, to its truck tire portfolio.
Manufactured in Yokohama's plant in West Point, Miss., all four sizes of the SmartWay-verified 712L — 295/75R22.5, 11R22.5, 285/75R24.5 and 11R24.5 — will carry the tire industry's three-peak mountain snowflake symbol on the sidewall.
"Applying the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol verifies the capabilities of the 712L in adverse weather," Tom Clauer, Yokohama's senior manager of commercial and OTR product planning, said.
"The deep-tread 712L offers superb traction, outstanding wear resistance, top-tier fuel efficiency, plus tough, durable construction, making it an excellent year-round tire for fleets."
The 712L also features:
- Advanced wear resistance attributed to the 30/32nds-inch deep groove for long-lasting life and traction. The tire doesn't sacrifice fuel efficiency, and its stress control grooves reduce contact pressure at the tread edge, providing increased resistance to shoulder step down wear for long, even wear, the company said. A flat footprint controls ground contact pressure and improves resistance to irregular wear.
- Improved fuel efficiency and traction achieved by a fuel-efficient tread compound that was developed for reduced rolling resistance without compromising wear performance, the company said. Straight and angled sipes — as well as zig-zag intermediate grooves — provide greater radial and lateral traction, while straight circumferential outer grooves allow for water evacuation and enhanced traction even in the worst weather conditions.
- Durable construction via the funnel-shaped grooves that prevent stones and other debris from reaching the bottom groove, where casing damage can often occur.
The 712L comes with a 7-year unlimited retread warranty.
