SANTA ANA, Calif. — Yokohama Tire Corp. is adding a version of its Geolandar light truck tire line, the Geolandar A/T XD, that it describes as an all-terrain "work truck" tire engineered for full-size pickup trucks and commercial vans.

The new Geolandar iteration is severe-snow-service-rated (3-Peak Mountain Snowflake) and is designed to be studded for enhanced year-round on- and off-road traction, Yokohama said.

It launches in 19 LT-designated sizes covering 16- to 20-inch rim diameter sizes — ranging from LT215/85R16 to LT295/65R20 — and two flotation sizes, 35x12.50R17 and 35x12.50R20. More sizes are in the pipeline for later in the year.

The new line is being imported from Yokohama plants in Japan.

"The A/T XD is a tough, all-terrain tire that was built to take the punishment hard-working trucks and vans encounter every jobsite," Drew Dayton, senior product planning manager, consumer tires, said.

Benefits of the A/T XD include:

    • On-/off-road durability is achieved by Yokohama's GEO-SHIELD technology, which features a three-ply sidewall, full nylon cap and high turn-up carcass to assure merciless traction and reliable protection. Plus, the sidewall armor creates a bold, new look and provides protection from lateral impacts, the company said.
    • All-weather performance is enhanced by an "aggressive" tread design that has hundreds of wavy sipes combined with an optimized void-to-lug ratio to provide all-weather traction.
    • A wide, flat profile distributes stresses more evenly across the entire tread area to maximize even wear and extend tread life.
    • A high-density, natural-rubber-based compound helps enhance cut and chip resistance.

    Pricing information was not disclosed.
