ORLANDO, Fla. — Yokohama Tire Corp. is adding a new model to its truck/bus tire lineup ahead of the 2023 Technology & Maintenance Council meeting and trade show in Orlando.
Yokohama is adding the 114R trailer tire for use in regional haul and spread-axle operations.
Yokohama's 114R is a SmartWay-verified product that the company is positioning as a long-life product for regional haul and spread-axle applications.
The line launches March 1 in the U.S. in six sizes: 11R22.5, 295/75R22.5, 285/75R24.5, 11R24.5, 255/70R22.5 and 275/70R22.5.
"With its high-scrub tread compound and rounded shoulder ribs, the all-new 114R is definitely built to last," Tom Clauer, Yokohama's senior manager of commercial product planning, said.
Yokohama said the tire's longer wear is achieved by the use of rounded shoulder ribs that are designed to resist curb damage and help reduce wear — especially in spread axle applications. A high-scrub compound is formulated to resist tread cutting and chipping without producing a negative impact on fuel efficiency.
Yokohama addressed rolling resistance/fuel efficiency by optimizing tread depth and employing a "sturdy" rib design that provides "flawless" tracking while minimizing treadwear.
The tire also features funnel-shaped step grooves that prevent stones and other debris from reaching the bottom of the grooves where casing damage can occur.
