Toyota specs Yokohama Avid GT on 2019 RAV4 CUV

TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp. has selected a 19-inch version of Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.'s Avid GT car tire an OE fitment on the 2019 RAV4 crossover vehicle.

The new OE fitment on the fifth-generation RAV4 is 235/55R19 101V. The latest version of the four-wheel-drive RAV4 launched in North America in 2018 and is rolling out in 2019 in Japan, South Korea, Europe and other selected markets. Toyota assembles the RAV4 in North America.

The Avid GT was developed by applying the basic design and material technologies featured in Yokohama's "BlueEarth" environmentally, human, and socially friendly tire lines. Developed to deliver a safe ride during a sudden snowfall, the Avid GT bears the M+S (mud + snow) marking on its sidewall.

Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. also has OE fitments on the new RAV4 with its Dunlop and Falken brands. Toyota spec'd two sizes of SRI's Dunlop Grandtrek PT20 — 225/60R18 100H and 225/65R17 10 — for the fitment. The Falken-brand fitment is for the TRD Off-Road version of the RV4 with the Wildpeak A/T Trail 01A, size 225/60R18.

Toyota notes the RAV4 is the best-selling vehicle in its class, doubling volume over the last five years to sales of nearly 408,000 vehicles in the U.S. in 2017.

The gasoline-powered version of this latest iteration is powered by a 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine paired with an 8-speed direct-shift automatic transmission. The Hybrid version mates the engine with Toyota's Hybrid System II (THS II) and an electronically controlled continuously-variable transmission.
