COSTA MESA, Calif. — Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. has added the Toyo Proxes R, designed for dry road racing and high-performance driving on the race track, to its competition tire portfolio.
The tire builds upon its predecessor, the Proxes RR, and is designed to offer racers quicker lap times, improved stability and heightened responsiveness, with a new tread compound and reinforced sidewall for more grip and precision.
"Grassroots racers, track day enthusiasts, and those honing their skills at high-performance driving experiences will enjoy the exhilarating feeling of the Proxes R while achieving their best laps of the day," Toyo said.
Toyo said the the Proxes R is focused on speed and longevity and features a racing tread compound and enhanced contact patch to improve grip for quicker lap times, reinforced sidewall and high-modulus bead filler to improve stability and steering responsiveness, a symmetric non-directional two-groove 4/32nds-inch deep tread and wear markers for easy treadwear inspection.
"Our main focus when developing the Proxes R at our R&D facilities in Japan was on improving performance while retaining durability," Cameron Parsons, Toyo product engineer and field analyst, for competition and specialty tires, said.
"As enthusiasts ourselves, we understand the requirements of long track days and spirited, competitive driving. Throughout our design and testing, this all-new 40 UTQG tire has shown significant improvements in lap times while holding up to the demands of racing."
The Proxes R will be made in 26 sizes and load/speed combinations for 15- to 20-inch wheel diameters. Ten sizes will be available starting in April 2024 and the rest by the end of summer 2024.
Pricing information was not disclosed.
Toyo will continue to support the Proxes RR throughout the 2024 racing season for various spec tire classes.
