DES MOINES, Iowa — The National Slag Association (NSA) recently recognized Titan International Inc. as its Allied Member of the Year, defined as an organization involved in servicing or providing products essential to slag-producing organizations.
As a supplier for the steel sector, Titan produces tires and wheels for the specialized equipment used in steel mills to transport slag during the production process.
The company supplies tires and wheels to most slag operations in America and plans to partner with NSA to develop safety training and materials.
Chris Navetta, who heads up the purchasing committee for the NSA, said the organization values partnerships that "encourage the sharing of ideas and strategies that make all of the NSA's members stronger organizations.
"Titan International represents the idea of partnership that exemplifies the NSA. The entire team at Titan routinely goes above and beyond to provide our members with quality products and valuable industry knowledge."
Johni Francis, global OTR product manager at Titan, called the recognition special.
"As an American steel wheel manufacturer — the health and prosperity of the U.S. steel industry is incredibly important to us," Mr. Francis said. "And as a tire manufacturer, we're dedicated to partnering with our steel customers to design and engineer top-tier tires that are designed to meet the unique needs of working with slag."
Titan said its tires are engineered to withstand the high temperatures and extreme conditions in the steel industry. Its bias tires feature high ply ratings and construction with an enlarged bead for increased stability with the deepest L-5 treads.
The company said its tires' design makes them ideal for the harsh conditions in the slag industry.
