MILAN, Italy — Pirelli & C. S.p.A. has launched the Scorpion MS, a high performance all-season tire designed as original equipment for the latest SUVs.

About three-fourths of all the Scorpion MS tires produced will be for electric and hybrid vehicles, with the tire maker's Elect technology, Pirelli said.

The product, which Pirelli said features a long tread life that suits the U.S. market and a comfortable ride that suits the Asian market, succeeds the Scorpion Verde all-season and the Scorpion Zero all-season in the Pirelli lineup. The tire has been designed for light off-road use and driving in snowy conditions.

It offers better grip in wet and dry conditions, Pirelli said, and reduces rolling resistance compared with previous tires.

Pirelli said it has designed two Scorpion MS fitments for the fully electric Maserati Grecale Folgore: 255/50R19 all around, as well as 255/45R20 at the front and 295/40R20 in the rear.

Pirelli also will offer a runflat version of the tire, as well as one with the the tire maker's noise-canceling system to reduce cabin noise.

According to Pirelli, all products in the Scorpion family have been "designed to cope with the weight and driving dynamics" that differentiate EVs and hybrids in the market.

    Pricing information was not disclosed.

Pirelli recently presented three of its newest tires in the Pirelli P Zero family — the P Zero E, the P Zero R and the P Zero Trofeo RS —during the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed.

In early June, Pirelli Tire North America Inc. debuted its latest passenger tire, the P Zero AS Plus 3, an ultra-high-performance all-season tire for premium vehicles designed for the North American consumer.
