TEXARKANA, Ark. — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the death of a worker on July 27 at Goodyear's Cooper Tire plant in Texarkana.
The name of the worker, a member of the United Steelworkers, and the circumstances of the incident are not being released, pending the investigation.
In a statement, Goodyear said it was "deeply saddened that one of our associates passed away on July 27, following an injury that occurred at Goodyear's Texarkana facility. We have reported the incident to OSHA and are cooperating with its investigation."
The fatality is the second in two years at the facility, according to the Texarkana Gazette daily newspaper.
The paper said that in August 2021, a 28-year-old Cooper Tire employee died after being injured on the job. A USW official told the newspaper at the time that the employee became entangled in one of the Tire Uniformity Optimizer machine's pinch points.
