DAYTON, Tenn. — Another month, another milestone for Nokian Tyres P.L.C.
The Nokia, Finland-based tire maker said it set a monthly production record in October at its North American factory in Dayton, while boosting its workforce there to around 500.
Nokian said the milestone comes as it completes infrastructure upgrades and optimizes efficiencies. All-season and all-weather tires for the U.S. and Canada are manufactured at the plant.
David Korda, factory operations director, said his team has worked steadily since the plant opened in 2019 to expand output and help colleagues grow.
"It is rewarding to reach new heights in our growth journey, at the same time we are adding jobs and becoming more efficient than ever," he said.
Nokian credits its rigorous training and equipment upgrades, aimed at increasing yield while maintaining high quality, for its growth. The company opened a finished goods warehouse this summer, adding employees to staff the building.
An automated gantry system became operational recently, the company said, delivering tires from the production building to the warehouse. Nokian Tyres said it ships tires from the finished goods warehouse in Dayton to its nine warehouses across North America, from which the company serves dealers in the U.S. and Canada.
Nokian Tyres was named the Company of the Year from the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association in 2021 and was the first Rhea County company to win a Tennessee Governor's Environmental Stewardship award.
