DAYTON, Tenn. — Nokian Tyres P.L.C. has begun hiring around 125 workers to serve in various jobs at its North American factory in Dayton, where production is being ramped up in the wake of Nokian's decision to divest its Russian factory.
Nokain Tyres said the majority of the hiring will occur in March through May.
The move comes as Nokian pushes to double production at its Dayton plan, especially after selling its Russian facility late last year after the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The tire maker is adding jobs in four areas: quality; maintenance; logistic and information technology. The starting pay for production operation positions ranges from $17 an hour to $21 per hour.

"We are eager to welcome hundreds of new colleagues this year," Nokian Senior Human Resources Manager Blake Markham said. "We offer a strong work-place culture and excellent career advancement opportunities at a safe, highly advanced facility."
In January, Nokian announced it was targeting the Dayton plant for 4 million tires per year by 2024. Once positions are filled, the company will employ around 475, more than its initial commitment of 400 employees.
The company is also building a 600,000-tire warehouse on the Dayton campus, becoming the 10th warehouse for the tire maker in the U.S. and Canada. The warehouse is slated to go online by mid-2024.
Nokian Tyres opened the Dayton facility in late 2019 and began producing tires for commercial sale in early 2020. The company continues to add equipment in the factory that will enable it to double production of all-season and all-weather tires. Nokian also plans to add light truck tires to the Dayton factory's product mix later this year.
Nokian announced last year it plans to build a passenger tire factory in Romania in a $650 million project to replace capacity lost due to its decision to exit Russia. The Romanian government agreed to provide $108 million in aid for the construction of plant.
