The Michelin X One Multi T is available for spread and multi-axle trailer fitment configurations

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Michelin North America Inc. has launched the Michelin X One Multi T wide-base single truck tire for fleets looking for more stability in weight-sensitive applications such as flatbeds and tankers.

Launching for the North American regional market, the tire is designed for high-scrub, weight-sensitive applications. The X One Multi T is available for spread- and multi-axle trailer-fitment configurations.

“This new Michelin X One Multi T is the trailer-tire solution for weight savings and scrub resistance,” Adam Murphy, vice president, B2B marketing, Michelin North America, said. “The deeper tread helps provide superior tread life to keep cargo rolling and delivering profits.”

As a wide-base single configuration, the tire enables a tractor-trailer to carry up to 289 pounds more in payload versus dual tires, based on internal testing against Michelin XTE tires.

The tire will be produced at Michelin's Spartanburg, S.C., plant, according to Coy Jones, operational marketing manager, Michelin North America.

The X One Multi T is a new edition to the company's portfolio to support customers running high-scrub regional fleets.

"The fleets wanted a tire with the same scrub resistance they experienced with the X One XTE," Mr. Jones said. "The key for these fleets were the weight savings and scrub durability more than fuel savings. This was especially true for spread axle, multi axle and routes with tight turning radius, like grocery haulers."

The dual-compound tread resists scrub and a cooler internal layer helps maximize casing life, the company said.

The directional tread design incorporates matrix siping and micro-sipes to reduce irregular wear, and variable groove walls and groove bottom protectors provide improved resistance to stone drilling, the company said. Curb guards provide sidewall protection.

Michelin X One Multi T is available in one size: 445/50R22.5.

"This product is built to be an enhancement of the Michelin X One XTE," Mr. Jones said.

"We are using the known compound durability of the XTE, utilizing dual compound technology to improve casing durability, and the latest rubber enhancements to the bead area," he said. "This is all in our effort to answer the needs of those fleets demanding increased payload and improved revenue in these trailer applications with a high degree of lateral stress."

The company said the price for the Michelin X One Multi T will be the same as the X One Mutli Energy T.
