GREENVILLE, S.C. —– Michelin North America Inc. is partnering with Trailer Aerodynamics L.L.C. for Michelin Energy Guard, which the company says can save money for fleets while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Michelin said fuel efficiency can be improved by up to 7.4%, according to a study.
Among the components of the Energy Guard kit are a flexible trailer skirt that provides stiffness without sacrificing durability. This skirt can flex and bend around objects and bounce right back into place; a bracket and slider design that reduces load on skirt panels to take advantage of tough skirt materials; drag-reducing trailer end fairings designed for top and side of trailer to accelerate and then turn airflow around the back of the trailer, without required cutouts for hinges and overhang; aerodynamic mud flaps that reduce drag and road spray; and a rear-facing spoiler for swing and roll-up doors that reduces the size and effect of the primary recirculation zone behind the trailer. No driver interaction is required.
Trailer Aerodynamics is the manufacturer of Michelin Energy Guard.
