The tire features:
- Silica fillers in the compound that deliver reliable performance in wet weather;
- 3D lateral groove and notch design in the tread that breaks up surface film, alongside 2+1 circumferential grooves for improved hydroplaning resistance;
- An innovative tread design featuring a wide outer shoulder that maximizes cornering performance and response;
- Two center ribs that provide continuous road contact for excellent traction while braking and accelerating.
The VR2 is anchored by a casing design tuned for maximum stability and response while retaining comfort on the highway.
The overall tire construction features a reinforced bead area with two high-tensile-strength steel belts and a spiral-wound nylon cap, as well as a new super-high turn-up sidewall ply that vastly improves lateral stiffness and response, making it even sharper and more responsive than the VR-1.
Because the VR2 is a summer-oriented tire, special care is required when storing it in near-freezing temperatures, Maxxis said.
The VR2 will be offered in 19 sizes from 15-inch to 19-inch wheel diameters that covers popular track-day fitments including all generations of the Mazda MX5, Toyota/Subaru twins and others.
