Michelin tops customer satisfaction in 3 OE segments

TROY, Mich. — New car owners rank Michelin-brand tires highest in customer satisfaction in three original-equipment categories, according to the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Study.

The study surveyed new-vehicle owners' satisfaction with their original equipment tires after one and two years in service.

The study examined overall customer satisfaction with tires, as well as tire problems experienced, relative importance of tire attributes, tire replacement behavior and recommendation and repurchase intentions of vehicle owners.

In the luxury segment — compact premium car and SUV, large premium car, mid-size premium car/SUV and small premium car/SUV — Michelin scored 834, while Goodyear (812) ranked second and Continental (811) ranked third. Michelin is ranked No. 1 in this segment for the 21st consecutive year,

Michelin also ranked highest in the passenger car segment with a score of 823. Goodyear (811) ranked second, followed by Kumho (799) at third.

Michelin ranked highest in the performance sport segment with a score of 833, followed by Pirelli (798) and Goodyear (788).

Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd.'s Falken brand ranked highest in the truck/utility segment with a score of 818, while Michelin's BFGoodrich brand (812) ranked second and Hankook (804) ranked third.

The customer satisfaction study measures tire owner satisfaction in four areas (in order of importance): tire ride, tire wear, tire traction/handling and tire appearance.

The study was based on responses from 31,414 owners of 2022 and 2023 model-year vehicles and was conducted from August through December 2023.
