CHESTER, S.C. — Giti Tire USA recently held a student STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) competition in Chester County, S.C., site of its U.S. factory.
The Giti Tire STEAM competition — "which underscores Giti Tire's commitment to nurturing the region's budding talent and fostering a passion for STEAM education," the tire maker said — tasked local students with constructing roller coaster models using an array of materials, including wood, wire, string, cardboard and glue.
The competition was divided into elementary, middle and high school tiers and was judged on technical merit, creativity and the excitement of the ride. Teams also competed in categories including most thrilling, best name and most creative/unique.
Winning teams from each division will progress to an out-of-state competition.
The 2024 winning teams were Great Falls Elementary School in Great Falls, S.C., Chester Middle School in Chester, and Lewisville High School in Richburg, S.C.
