Falken debuts all-weather touring tire Aklimate

    RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — Sumitomo Rubber North America Inc. has unveiled its Falken brand's inaugural all-weather touring tire, the Aklimate.

    The tire features a new rubber compound and an optimized tread pattern that delivers year-round performance, Falken said, suitable for drivers who don't require dedicated winter tires.

    The tire fits such vehicles as the Chevrolet Suburban, Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Civic, Lexus RX, Mercedes Benz GLC, the Nissan Versa, Subaru Forester and the Toyota Camry.

    The first 13 sizes will be available in October, with more sizes to follow in November and December. In total, the Falken Aklimate will be available in 88 sizes (53 passenger tire sizes, 35 SUV/CUV sizes), covering 15- to 22-inch rim diameter sizes.

    Features of the tire include:

    • Advanced 4D Nano Design Technology in a new rubber compound that delivers wet handling, snow traction and longeer tread life.
    • A tread pattern designed to combine optimized sipe depths with tread pattern rigidity, ensuring better traction and longer life.
    • Aklimate's tread pattern was designed to combine optimized sipe depths with tread pattern rigidity, ensuring confident traction throughout the life of the tire.
    • Canyon Grooves that provide enhanced snow capability while maintaining a comfortable, quiet ride.
    • 3D Canyon sipe technology, providing more sipes on the shoulder blocks, enhancing traction in various conditions.

    The tire comes with a 65,000-mile limited treadwear warranty, a 30-day ride guarantee and Falken's road-hazard protection.

    Falken didn't provide pricing information.
