FORT MILL, S.C. — Continental Tire the Americas has launched a line of General-brand press-on solid industrial tires, complementing the expanding range of Continental-branded materials-handling tires introduced over the past few years.
The launch comprises two lines, the treaded Trac designed for outdoor applications where a gripping edge is required and the slick Smooth for indoor applications where enhanced traction and reduced chunking are needed for optimal performance.
Continental said adding a line of General-branded materials-handling tires allows it to better serve its customers in the U.S. and Canada, depending on the needs of their operation.
The Continental-brand tires are optimized for tough applications with up to three-shift usage, the company said, while General-branded products offer an "exceptional" price-performance ratio and are suited for operations with up to two-shift usage.
The treaded Trac line is available in six sizes — 16x6x10 1/2; 18x6x12 1/8; 18x7x12 1/8; 21x7x15; 21x8x15; and 22x9x16 — while the Smooth comes in 13 sizes.
The tires are produced in Sri Lanka by Eu-Retec (Pvt.) Ltd., a wholly owned Continental subsidiary. Additional General-branded products are expected in the future.
Continental offers two types of solid tires — Super Elastic, which are designed to fit on industrial pneumatic tire rims and are built with a high-damping cushion compound for reduced rolling resistance and low temperature generation; and Press-On Bands, which are available in two versions: POB with steel base and POB with steel wire reinforcement.
