    Bridgestone Americas has developed a wide-base radial truck tire, the Greatec M847, for use by trucking fleets that operate in high-scrub, urban-area applications.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Bridgestone Americas has developed a wide-base radial truck tire, the Greatec M847, for use by trucking fleets that operate in high-scrub, urban-area applications.

    Engineered with "enduring" strength and longevity, the all-position tire is designed to provide fleets with "uncompromising" durability, improved fuel efficiency and lower cost of ownership, Bridgestone said.

    The M847, which is produced in Japan, replaces the Greatec M845 in the company's portfolio of heavy-duty tires.

    The tire will debut at Waste Expo 2023, May 1-4 in New Orleans, in a single size: 455/55R22.5.

    "Fleets that operate in high-scrub, urban areas need reliable tires to keep up with the pace of their business while also cutting their cost per mile," Chris Tavares, executive director, commercial marketing, Bridgestone Americas, said.

    Innovative features and benefits of the Greatec M847 include:

    • A redesigned tread package with a 26/32nds-inch tread depth combined with an application-specific compound to deliver increased wear life and scrub resistance with 8% lower rolling resistance versus the M845 that it's replacing;
    • Stone-rejector platforms and wide shoulder grooves to help prevent groove-cracking and stone damage to belts, which helps enhance retreadability;
    • A continuous shoulder rib that helps provide even wear and reduce rolling resistance by controlling movement of the ribs and blocks during rotation.
    • Optimized Waved Belt technology and Turn-In Ply design to enhance the wear-out performance and casing durability.

    Bridgestone also is promoting that the new tire can be paired with Bridgestone Bandag retreads to helps reduce operating cost and environmental impacts.

    Pricing information was not disclosed.
