TOYKO — Bridgestone Corp. has published its latest strategy goals for a integrating sustainability into its business model.
The updated approach is designed to help guide the tire maker for both mid- and long-term.
Bridgestone seeks to accelerate a circular economy in its business. This includes increasing the use of recyclable and renewable materials to 40% by 2030.
The company also wants to reduce carbon dioxide emissions throughout its products' lifecycles "and entire value chain" with a goal of helping to create a carbon neutral society.
Bridgestone wants to specifically reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2030 with aspirations of a 50% reduction. This includes emissions directly from company operations, called Scope 1 emissions, as well as from the generation of energy used by the company, called Scope 2 emissions.
"Sustainability is an indispensable part of all of the Group's activities and are core elements of our growth strategies and corporate culture," Bridgestone CEO Shuichi Ishibashi said. "Recognizing this, we have kicked off initiatives to more deeply integrate sustainability strategies into our daily operations. We see tremendous business and social opportunity in co-creating new value with our employees, partners, customers and others."
The new goals were released as part of the company's latest sustainability report.
