LONG BEACH, Calif. — Bridgestone Americas Inc. launched its first replacement tire purpose-built for electric vehicles (EV) on May 19.

The Turanza EV grand touring tire is designed to provide "excellent tread life, minimal ride noise, and confident wet handling to complement the electric vehicle experience."

The Turanza EV, which was designed and manufactured in North America, officially unveiled the tire at an Electrify Expo tour stop in Long Beach. The tire is now available in an initial five sizes, include fitments for Tesla Models 3, S, X, and Y, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Bridgestone said it plans to release 13 additional sizes early next year.

The Turanza EV tire is the first replacement market tire in North America to feature Bridgestone's Enliten technology which is engineered to optimize all-season performance, provide longer wear life and allow for the incorporation of renewable and recycled materials in its tire products, the company said.

Bridgestone utilize the technology across its entire product line in the future, adding there's a new aspect to Enliten for the Turanza EV called PeakLife. Bridgestone describes Peaklife as "a next-generation polymer technology that enhances tread resistance to wear, aiding in enabling extended tire life."

Developed at the company's Americas Technology Center in Akron, the PeakLife polymer is the results of two years of working on Enliten, and prioritized "significantly improving" the tire's wear capabilities.

"With the accelerated progress toward an electrified vehicle fleet, we're thrilled to launch a tire that is designed to help drivers get the best overall experience from their electric vehicles, including ride comfort, all-season driving performance and excellent wear life," said Riccardo Cichi, president and chief sales officer, Bridgestone Americas. "We are also excited to introduce Enliten, which marks a major pivot in how we approach tire technology and design to deliver both exceptional dynamic performance and increased use of renewable and recycled materials."

Long range: Bridgestone Turanza EV tires extend energy efficient performance with low rolling resistance.

    • Sustainablity: The Turanza EV tire delivers a 50,000-mile limited warranty thanks to PeakLife that enhances tread wear to overcome the load and torque of an EV.
    • Quiet ride: With QuietTrack technology embedded in the tread design, the Turanza EV reduces road noise for a quiet, comfortable ride.
    • Wet roads: Bridgestone said wet braking and handling of the Turanza EV is on par with "leading OE touring tire."

The Turanza EV incorporates 50% renewable and recycled materials. It is manufactured at Bridgestone's passenger car tire production facilities in Wilson, N.C., and Monterrey, Mexico, where Bridgestone said it has made significant new investments to accommodate the use of Enliten technology, including new rubber mixing and tire construction tools and technologies.
