RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — Giti Tire (USA) Ltd. is planning to add a freight surcharge of as much as $10,000 per 40 high-cube container for some destinations in the U.S. "due to the challenges that all companies who use ocean freight for the transportation of goods are facing."
The surcharge will be effective July 5, but the company said it monitors the situation continuously and will adjust prices accordingly as container shipping capacity restrictions ease and return to normal.
Giti said continued and prolonged port and domestic transportation congestions in North America" has reduced the number of container vessel voyages significantly, reducing international shipping capacity."
According to Giti, vessel space shortages have created a global crisis and "dramatically increased container ocean freight rates to new heights."
