Nokian Tyres P.L.C.'s Dayton, Tenn., manufactures passenger/light truck tires. The company christened the plant Oct. 2, two years after breaking ground on the $360 million project.
WASHINGTON — The opening of Nokian Tyres P.L.C.'s Dayton, Tenn., plant on Oct. 2 got a publicity boost from an unexpected source — President Donald Trump.
Speaking at press conference in Washington alongside Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, Mr. Trump gave a shout-out to the plant opening.
At 3:30 into the news conference, Mr. Trump references the plant opening:
"Today, Nokian Tyres opened a new manufacturing plant in Dayton, Tenn., a $360 million investment that is creating hundreds of new, beautiful jobs for a great state, Tennessee — we love Tennessee. They made a wise choice; You never lose when you go to Tennessee.
"I encourage other Finnish companies to increase their investments in the United States. There has simply never been a better time to do business in America. …"
Mr. Niinistö was in Washington for talks with the Trump administration on a number of topics.
