MONTROSE, Ohio — Flynn's Tire Group is expanding its retail footprint westward with the opening of a seven-bay store in Montrose, about five miles northwest of downtown Akron.
West Middlesex, Pa.-based Flynn's Tire has set a tentative opening date of May 22 for the store, located in a concrete-block structure built originally in the early 1990s for Tire America. It was converted to a carpet store after Tire America closed. Flynn's is converting it back to its original use, opening three garage doors that had been blocked over.
The Montrose store will be Flynn's second retail location in the Akron metropolitan area, ninth in Ohio and 25th overall. It opened a five-bay store in mid-2021 in Cuyahoga Falls, a northern Akron suburb, that had been an independent auto repair and quick lube facility before Flynn's took it over and renovated it.
In addition to the retail stores, Flynn's Tire Group operates three commercial sales and service locations and four wholesale distribution warehouses.
The new location sits on a hill overlooking the I-77/U.S. Route 18 interchange. Montrose is an unincorporated community largely containing commercial businesses.
With 26 stores, Flynn's Tire will be among the 40 largest independent retail dealership in the U.S., according to Tire Business research.
